Draft notice for review. The operator must add its legal name, postal address and confirmed processors before going live.
Privacy notice
Digital Chime lets you get a notification when a participating ice cream van stops on a street you choose. It's designed to collect as little as possible.
Who is responsible (controller)
Each ice cream business on Digital Chime is the controller for its own customers' alert records. For Kaddy's Superwhip alerts, the controller is Kaddy's Superwhip. [Legal name and postal address to be added by the operator.]

What we store
For discovery, your entered postcode is sent to postcodes.io to check that it exists. That service supplies postcode coordinates, not street addresses. We match only separately verified served streets, never a guessed radius. The postcode is not added to your push subscription; technical request logs may include it.
- The street(s) you choose and which operator they belong to, plus the selected van when you follow a van-specific link. Van subscriptions only receive that van’s chimes on your chosen route streets; operator subscriptions follow the chosen streets across that operator’s vans. Switching choices replaces your previous scope.
- A push subscription: a technical address issued by your browser's push service (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla) plus encryption keys, so a notification can reach this device. It doesn't contain your name or phone number, but because it identifies a device it may be personal data.
- A random management code (stored only as a one-way hash) so this device can change or delete its own record.
- Technical and security logs: standard server logs (which can include IP addresses) kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.
We do not ask for your name, email, house number or phone number, and we don't track your location. We don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
Optional driver location assistance
Staff drivers may explicitly enable browser location assistance for their current foreground session. It defaults off every session, stops when the page is hidden or they leave the driver screen, and does not run reliably with the screen locked. Coordinates stay on the driver's device, are not sent to our server or stored, and only suggest verified assigned route stops. Sending a chime still requires manual street selection and confirmation that the van is safely parked. Customers are never asked for GPS.
Why (lawful basis)
To send the alerts you asked for. We rely on your consent (you choose to allow notifications) and on legitimate interests for keeping the service secure. Turning notifications on is always optional.
How long
Your record stays until you turn alerts off, or until your browser's push service tells us the address no longer works (we then delete it automatically). Operators see only aggregate numbers of devices, never individual records.
Who else is involved
- Your browser or phone maker's push service delivers the notification.
- The app is hosted on cloud infrastructure that stores the data on our behalf. [Confirmed processor names and locations to be listed by the operator.]
We never sell or share subscriptions, and no sponsor or advertiser gets access to them.
Turning it off
On your subscribed customer page tap Turn off & delete my data. Removing the app from your home screen or blocking notifications in browser settings stops alerts too; if you do that without tapping delete, the record is removed the next time a send to it fails.
Children and families
This is a family-friendly service. We don't knowingly collect information about children, and alerts never contain marketing aimed at children. If a child uses a family phone, a parent or carer should decide whether to turn alerts on. Always cross the road safely — the van will wait.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Because we don't know who you are, the quickest way is the delete button on this device. You can also send a rights request to Support: info@kaddyssuperwhip.co.uk. Complaints can go to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
